HSB: Full expansion now a reality

As the group approaches its 5th Anniversary in October, we reflect on our progress over that period.

I think back to the early days when there was only 2 of us meeting weekly for a few games. Then we became 5 and over the next couple of years, we continued to thrive and grow.

Unfortunately, 2020 brought the pandemic which along with pretty much the entire world, put us out of action for a while and there was concern that we might never reform. But eventually, we came back out of hibernation stronger than ever. We had just increased from 2 courts to 3 at our weekly sessions and average attendances were reaching around 12 players. We were still very keen to welcome new members, but were limited by our court space. However, in June of 2023, the opportunity to make the final jump to full expansion, giving us all 4 courts at our venue became an option, one which we really didn't want to miss out on

So we've now made a block booking for a whole 12 months, commencing from September right through till August 2024, using all 4 courts and with that, we've recently welcomed 4 new members to the group. Our weekly average attendance has increased to 16. One of our biggest successes has been the subscription method we use to fund the group. Each member pays an equal share of the court costs for a 6 month period, which means the individual fee each week is just £2.67 for 2 hours on 4 courts.

No profit is made by the group. Every pound paid by the members goes towards court costs and equipment, namely Shuttlecocks.

So have we whetted your appetite sufficiently to take the next step? We still have places available for new players, who understand the basic rules and principles of playing Badminton. Maybe you're keen to return to the sport after a period of absence. Many of our members have done the same. Perhaps you already play during the week but wish to add an additional session to your diary. Or maybe you play casually with a friend/ partner and want to get a little more variety of play. Please note that we are unable to accept beginners as we are prohibited from offering any coaching or tuition.
