H.S.B - Our Story
Back in 2018, our story started with just 2 players, both with a shared interest in playing Badminton. Their regular games over a number of weeks, spawned the idea to create a new group for other players to join and create more varied matches. So in October that year, Hinton Badminton launched with just 5 members. Over the next few months, the membership started to grow, reaching double figures, so it became necessary for us to relocate to our current home, Netherhall Sports Centre.
Then in March 2020, COVID struck and the subsequent lock-downs brought a pause to our activities. Our membership had reached double figures but with the uncertainty of the pandemic, we weren't sure if we would ever have a group to return to. Fortunately, 2021 provided us with a way back and although we lost a couple of members, Hinton Badminton Group, as we were known, continued with our weekly sessions. We'd also created our subscription payment system, managed via this very website, and even started to host the occasional social event for our members to enjoy. By 2023, the world had almost returned to normality and again,
our membership was growing at such a rate, we installed a
committee to manage the group. Or rather Hinton Badminton Club,
which is what we became known as for a short period. We'd
upgraded our weekly session from 2 courts, to 3 courts and
then in 2024, all 4 courts in the main hall at Netherhall.
At this point, we'd become a fully recognised social community
group, with an ethos of providing friendship so yet another name
change become necessary, and that's where we finally settled on
Hinton Social Badminton.
So here we are in 2026, our committee continues to provide cost effective, enjoyable, friendly, social badminton sessions to our playing membership and our Events committee organises a range of activities to enable them to enjoy sociable gatherings.
We've set our membership capacity at 32 and weekly sessions average just over 20 players.
